Minion Monies: How much did my 2019 Montreal Trip Cost?

The following will be an accounting of my 2019 trip to Hawaii. If you’ve not read the blog, you can do so here. It might provide some extra context to the costs below!

The Transportation ($605.22)

The Flights ($446.35)

Our flights to Montreal were booked on Air Transat which is more of a leisure airline, but it did provide us a great rate to get to the other side of the country. Our flights ended up costing $446.35 per person.

Getting Around and other costs ($158.87)

For the most part, getting around Montreal consisted of using public transit. Using a combination of day and weekend passes cost $37.00 in total.

The only other transportation expense we incurred was the Via Rail ticket from Montreal to Ottawa when we did a day trip to our nation’s capital.

The round trip train ticket would cost $121.87

Total Transportation Costs

Airfare  $446.35
Other Transportation  $158.87
Total =$605.22

Accommodations ($269.50)

We stayed at one AirBnB for this entire trip. The location is pretty solid as it gives us good access to quite a bit of public transit options so it worked out quite well for us. This AirBnB cost me $269.50 individually.

Total Accommodation Costs

Montreal AirBnB    $269.50
Total = $269.50

Food and Beverage ($400)

With regards to food, we had a few dinners planned at some notable restaurants which brought the costs up a little bit. Some notable meals would be our dinner at Au Peid Couchon, Swartz and L’express. During the day, we didn’t spend too much on food, we would stop for pastries, bagels, or small snacks rather than big meals. In general I would estimate our meals costing around $400 for the trip.

Miscellaneous Expenses ($496.88)

There’s mainly two miscellaneous expenses. The first is the cost of skate rentals on our day in Ottawa. This cost us $22 each person.

The only other cost would be storing our bags at a BagBNB (now called Radical Storage) on our last day in Montreal. This cost $8 per person.

So overall our miscellaneous expenses total $30 for each traveller.

Totals

If you add everything up:

Transportation    $605.22
Accommodations + $269.50
Food & Beverage + $400
Miscellaneous + $30
Total = $1304.72

We get a grand total trip cost of $1304.72. Averaging this out over 6 days we get $217.45 per day.
